Day 100

Feeling Alive

Yay. My first major milestone. Still have a long way to go before...well, I don't know where this is going, so I don't really know how to end that sentence. 265 days left? Will I just stop taking pictures then? Am I aiming for 1000 like Scott, or am I going on indefinitely?

Anyway, Ally and I made our way to Fira and Oia in Santorini today. They've got the classic Greek coast look with whitewashed stucco homes with blue doors and shudders.

I took more pictures today than I did any other day of the trip.

By the time we got off the ktel at Oia, we hadn't eaten in a while and it was a million degrees out, so we decided to kick it at a little cafe there at the bus stop. It was pretty literally a hole-in-the-wall, but above the hole it claimed that it had "the best gyros". To our delight, Ally and I payed about $5 total for two of the best gyros pitas that we had on the whole trip. They weren't lying. It was so good that I didn't even pick the onions out of mine, and I hate onions (see bottom of link).

The restaurant you can see Ally sitting in wouldn't serve us water until we looked at and okayed the price because everything was so expensive (except in Athens, the places we went didn't have drinkable tap water so you had to buy bottles. Our shower in Santorini was salty sulfur water.). Since we were so hot and needed a rest, we stayed for a while and ate a small bowl of fruit and yogurt for close to $20. Although Greece has some of the best fruit that I've ever had (they know their fruit really well), it's not worth anything near that price. But this view sure as hell is.

We originally took the day trip in order to watch the infamous Oia sunset. It's on the farthest west point on Santorini and is supposed to have beautiful sunsets over the ocean. There were even signs as we walked through the narrow cobblestone walkways that said "sunset→" We didn't plan ahead very well and actually arrived there about 7 hours early for the event, walked around for about 2 of those, and nearly died of dehydration and sun poisoning.

We watched the sunset through our eyelids while napping back at our hotel.

Wow! The pano makes me wonder why I'm here and not there :)

And then the main image. I'm absolutely loving it. Subject, composition, color, focus, it's perfect in every sense.

Congratulations to #100. Keep them rollin'!
