Day 86

update

Hey All. Just a few ramblings about things I've thought about today...

I think it's awesome how we live in the Milky Way, observe it every night, study the shit out of the data we get, and we still had no idea that there's a gigantic spiral arm on the far side that we had never seen before.

A girl that used to work at the Café was drinking at the bar this evening, and I chatted it up with her for a bit. I'm going to preface this story by saying that she's a really sweet, beautiful girl, although a bit...well, honestly, she's kinda flaky/ditsy. Now, she's had her share of dysfunctional relationships in the past, one of which with one of the most dysfunctional (but awesomist) guys that's ever worked at the Café. Well that all seemed to have changed since she has been stably dating a seemingly normal guy for the last year or more.

I turns out she eloped last week.

Cool, I said. I'm assuming it's with that same guy you've been seeing?

What guy? Well, anyway it's probably not whoever you're thinking of. I only knew this guy for a few weeks before we married.

*awkwardness that I'm sure she sensed* Um, that's neat.

When you know, you know, right?

Yeah. Sweet.

....

Not sweet. Who elopes? I spoke with Sherry, my faithful hiking buddy, about this, and she went on about how this girl has "known" for the last half-a-dozen guys she's dated, so what makes her think this is the ONE? Does she not think this is for real, Sherry said.

Another girl at work just got knocked up by a fellow coworker, and they had only been together for a few weeks, officially. They've decided to move in together and keep the child, which I think is fantastic and shit, but I sure hope this has a happy ending.

How do people get themselves into these situations? I mean, I know the biology behind it (mom and dad get together, drink a little High Life, baby pops out), but mentally, what were they thinking?

Speaking of Sherry, we're hiking in the morning. Interesting information? No. But am I excited? Yes.

Three rounds of frolf today. One with Mark and Dust, the other two with Shannon a few hours later. I like all three of those guys a lot, and all for very different reasons.

Title: Tweet Tweet

Early post. I'm tired and I'm probably not going to take many (any) other pictures today, so no use waiting until midnight when I get off of work to start photoshopping.

This is a funnily processed picture. I desaturated the whole thing quite a bit, then hypersaturated the yellows, bringing them back to their approximate original color. It makes everything else look...dead. I wish I could have gotten the white balance to look a little better. It's still too...purple? Blue?

----------

UPDATE: I retried editing the picture, and got something I like a little better. The embedded photo was the original one that I didn't like, and if you click here, you can see a side-by-side comparison of the two. The differences are slightly more compelling before they were uploaded onto flickr, but not a whole lot has changed anyway. The part that was bothering me was the wood in the background of the upper right, and the toast. I warmed both of those areas up without effing up the yellows in the cheese and yolk. I was originally trying to do this in Photoshop's raw editor, but as far as I can tell, you can't edit only portions of the picture, you have to make changes to the thing as a whole. I therefore desaturated the whole thing in there, than used photoshop itself to bring back the yellows and take out the blues, using masks to change only select areas. Now back to the original post...

----------

I like the way cracked pepper looks on an egg. It floats just above the surface, and its color slowly melts outward, tainting the whites and yellows. I alway put a lot on because I think it looks prettiest that way.

Sometimes food is better if it just looks good, not necessarily if it actually tastes better.

Ally's mother would probably shudder if she saw this picture. But she doesn't read this...
