Day Four
Every time I climb this certain boulder problem at the Boulder Rock Club, I fail the first two times. On the third or fourth try, I always get it, but I also leave a new callus from my fingers flapping on the outside of the hold. I don't know why, it's not particularly sharp, or knobby, or grainy--it's just some weird confluence of my body weight, movement, and dimensions that always causes a piece of my skin to be forcibly removed.

"I just don't want to die without a few scars."--Tyler Durden

I think if you don't have scars or knobs or calcite formations or staples, you really aren't getting the full benefit of being a human being. With technology, it's possible to live your entire life without ever sustaining a serious, or at least cosmetically serious, injury. I'm definitely not some balls to the wall adrenaline junkie, but if you can't point to something gross on your body without taking your clothes off, you haven't been trying hard enough.
