Title:
TapasAfter taking this picture, I realized that
Mark had taken a very similar one about a week ago. But I'm not taking pictures to be original; I'm taking them to be pretentious. I'm not a Philistine. Mark told me to say that.
Every time I work a brunch shift, I stand in the doorways of the Café and look out at the crowds in envy. Why am I stuck working in this hot, greasy restaurant and they get to walk around in the sun? Once my shifts are over, I'm so sick of Pearl Street that I drive home as quickly as possible, and hence don't get to enjoy the weather once I'm finally free to. Today, I enjoyed the weather. I can really thank this blog for that, because I started walking around Pearl with the intention of taking pictures. The corner of Pearl and 13th (where the Café is) has one of the best stages for the street performers, and I only catch clips of their shows from the doorways where I sulk. I've seen the same guys doing the same shows for 3 years, and I've still never seen any of them in their entirety. I hate that. I finally watched one today and it was great. I was so content today.
I got some great shots of the performance, but they were bad pictures...make sense? When I was taking the pictures, the sun was just over the horizon and was blasting everything with ridiculous amounts of brightness. It made all of the shadows look underexposed and everything else overexposed. I don't really know what I could have done to have taken better pictures in those circumstances. Flashes? Photo majors: educate me.
Ally eventually joined me and we got candy bars that we used to eat in Australia (read about our whole candy shop experience
here). Then we ate dinner at the Gondolier. They have a happy hour all day, every day for people in the restaurant industry (that's me!). Ally got a $3 sangria. They also have free refills of their spaghetti which is only $7.50 to begin with. Because of our happy hour tapas, we didn't get to take advantage of the refills, but I'm going to keep it in mind next time I'm really hungry.
Maybe next time I'll invite you...

Quick note... Sangria makes me loopy... so no more than one if I'm driving. Also, I'm no photo expert, but maybe you could ask all of Pearl Street (at least the street performer and his audience) to move to a more photogenic spot. I'm sure if you told them about the blog, they would be more than happy to move just for you. But be careful... they may throw axes on fire at you and then stuff you into Boshi's box (home). But if you are a true artist, you'll take the chance.

nice photo... just goes to show, that a cheap camera with a good eye is as good as an expensive camera with a bad eye.
